When Disney’s Mulan takes over from Disney Animation to open in the U.S. on Jan. 4, 2018

Disney is gearing up for the big day with the official release of Mulan, the Disney Animation film based on the popular Chinese animated series of the same name.

The movie opens in theaters on Jan 5, 2018 and the full run of Disney animated films will follow.

The film is slated to hit theaters in January 2019, and will star Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Jing Tian, and Zuo Li.

The film will be directed by Jia Zhangke (The Huntsman: Winter’s War, The Jungle Book), who was previously a writer for Disney films such as Beauty and the Beast, Frozen, and The Little Mermaid.

The plot follows the exploits of a young princess, who is trained to become a warrior, but must first overcome a dragon.

Disney will debut a slew of merchandise to mark the movie’s release.

Disney will also be hosting a special event in Hollywood, California, to commemorate the film’s release, featuring a live performance by Chinese singers Ching and the Mowgli, and the first live musical performance by two female Chinese singers, the Wok Ching.
